UCLA Parents' Council Presents: Be Well Bruin Campaign

As parents we know that college can be an incredible time of growth but it can also present challenges as our Bruins grow into being their own people. Mental health impacts all areas of college including academic performance, social interactions and overall well-being. In line with our mission to support student success, the goal of our Parents' Council crowdfunding effort is to increase the financial support for mental health services at UCLA so that every student has access to quality care.

In the span of two months between October 2023 to December 2023 just one UCLA mental health center had a total of 661 visits. These mental health resources and spaces are regularly used and available at no-cost* year-round to UCLA students.

We are asking for 250 community members to be a part of our campaign, which ends May 1st!

When you equip students with the skills to effectively navigate and manage their mental health, our whole community benefits. These resources are helping our Bruins build healthy habits that will translate to the rest of their lives.

UCLA's mental health efforts are lead by:

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) provides counseling services by licensed psychologists, clinical social workers, and marriage and family therapists.

Resilience in Your Student Experience (RISE) helps students build a strong foundation of resilience that includes the daily practice of caring for their mental wellness. Staffed by a team of mental health experts, prevention educators, professional staff advisors, and student ambassadors, RISE strives to uplift behavioral wellness as an integral component of the college experience and a strong predictor of academic success.

RISE often serves as a starting point for mental health or space for regular mental health maintenance while CAPS focuses on clinical mental health diagnoses. Both resources are essential to a student in their mental health journey.

In 2020, over 250 community members just like you came together to raise over $25,000 in support of student resilience!

Collective support from our Parents' Council led crowdfunding campaign in 2020 played a huge role in revamping the RISE Center space. Thanks to previous donors like you, the RISE team renovated their center into a clean and serene space for students to escape their busy schedules and focus on their mental well-being.

Confidential conversation areas were added so students can comfortably discuss sensitive subjects with center staff, and with new lounging areas, modular furniture, and optimized storage space, the RISE Center has truly become a sanctuary for students. We’re excited to see the impact of this year’s campaign!

To our fellow Parents' Council members: thank you for your support of this campaign! Our efforts in 2020 proved the strength of our collective Bruin spirit - let's continue the momentum this year. A special thank you to Roger Lee for his work with videography and photography. A very big thank you to our donors for this campaign. Every gift makes a difference in this community campaign!!

**No-cost disclaimer: CAPS services require student insurance, RISE Center services do not require student insurance.
