Support UCLA Men's Ultimate 2024!

UCLA Men’s Ultimate consists of Smaug, our competitive D1 team, and Smoke, our developmental team. Though we practice and compete separately, we are still one program, and this year, our program may be the strongest it’s ever been, with both Smaug and Smoke soaring (get it??) to new heights. As we approach the team’s thirtieth year of existence, Smaug is in the thick of another tightly contested race to reach our first-ever Nationals. On our journey this season, we’ve grown into a family, supporting each other through thick and thin. Now, as we make our final push to get over the hump, we’re asking for a little help from you!

Smoke wins Pomona Sweethearts!

Our everyday expenses are quite reasonable — discs, cones, field space, and uniforms — and are well within the range that our player dues will cover. The bulk of our expenditure is related to our opportunities to compete at the highest level: weekend tournaments.

For a given weekend tournament, our spending mostly comprises transportation and lodging. For in-state tournaments, we can usually rely on our players’ cars (and UCLA-rented vans) for transportation and the generosity of our friends, families, and alumni for (some) lodging. For out-of-state tournaments like Smoky Mountain Invite (in Knoxville, TN) and Northwest Challenge (in Seattle, WA), our costs include flights, rental cars, and motels, and are thus much higher.

Our goal is to ensure that cost will never stop a play from participating fully in a Smaug or Smoke season. While it would be incredible to raise enough money to make every tournament cost-free for all players, that is not feasible (stretch goal, anyone?!). What we can do, however, is ensure that those players who cannot afford to pay part or all of the costs themselves can still compete with their teammates. We also need to make sure that our amazing coaches don't have to pay for any of the costs associated with traveling — they all already make immense sacrifices to help our teams succeed.

Last year, your generous contributions allowed us to have a great season. Unfortunately, that season ended earlier than any of us would have liked. We don’t plan on that happening again this year, so to finance a costly trip to Nationals in Madison, WI, we’re hoping for another great fundraising campaign this year. As always, any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Ultimate-ly, all that really matters is that we get to play frisbee with one another, week in and week out. Without the generosity and support of our network (that’s you!), that wouldn’t be possible. We can’t thank you enough for everything that you do uplift us; our success is for and because of you!

$1.36

1 Drill

Drills are the backbone of any Smaug or Smoke practice. At a rate of $17 for 50 cones, just $1.36 can buy four cones, enough to set up any number of our favorite drills!

$9.99

1 Disc

What do throwing, catching, getting layout Ds, and spiking have in common? They all require a disc! The classic 175-gram Discraft UltraStar costs $10, but we wrote $9.99 so you'd think you were saving money.

$25

Get 4 players to a tournament

The Chevron™ in Westwood at 10984 Le Conte Ave currently charges $5.30 per gallon of gasoline -- whew! Given that the average white van gets 13 miles per gallon, and that we can fit 8 people into a van, this donation covers gasoline for a 4 players transportation to a tournament 119 miles away in San Diego -- and a stick of gum for the driver!

$50

Motivate a player

For just a $50 donation, we will assign your name to one player. If at any time during practice, that players motivation for the team falters, they have to shout your name and remember that you didn't donate so that they could be weak.

$100

1 Night of Great Sleep

Your $100 donation will pay for a motel room that houses five players for one night of a weekend tournament. Just 5 of these $100 donations cover lodging for the whole team for a night!

$250

1 Flight to Tennessee-ish

This generous donation of $250 provides funds for a round-trip plane ticket to a tournament in Tennessee! $250 is sufficient for a round-trip plane ticket across the country because we are flying at unholy hours into unholy airports. Yeah, you could say we're thrifty.

$500

One Whole Tournament

A $500 donation covers the entire cost of a bid to attend a tournament. Without paying this, we would not be able to attend a given tournament. This donation, simply put, singlehandedly allows us to stunt on teams across the country.

$1,000

Lodging for a tournament

This donation will cover our entire costs of lodging for the team for a whole weekend tournament!

$5,000

Name the C-team

Our program is growing, and we may have to add a second developmental team! For the low, low, price of $5000, we'll name that team whatever you choose.* *within reason, obviously
