Join My Campaign to Support Low-Income Engineering Students

Introducing the Russell Stong IV Engineering Scholarship, a beacon of opportunity for lower-income undergraduate engineering applicants at UCLA. Rooted in the deep-seated belief that talent knows no socioeconomic boundaries, this scholarship aims to bridge the gap for deserving individuals who embody the Bruin spirit and academic prowess but may not have the financial means to chase their dreams.

My journey at UCLA, threading the realms of engineering and basketball, illuminated the transformative power of education and opportunity. I joined the Bruin Family as a Mechanical Engineering student in 2018 which enabled me to pursue my dream of playing Division 1 college basketball. Against all odds, I earned a roster spot on our Men's Basketball team and the rest was history as I went on to compete in a Final Four, win an Elite 90 Award, foster lifelong relationships, and live the life I've always envisioned. Without the opportunity to attend UCLA and the support I received from my engineering faculty and peers, my path might have been vastly different. Now, it's time to pay it forward!

My scholarship seeks to empower future Bruin engineers, igniting their potential as world-changers, leaders, and innovators. By alleviating financial barriers, it ensures that brilliance and hard work, not background, defines their trajectory. This is my humble tribute to UCLA Engineering; a testament to the institution, faculty, and students who sculpted the foundation of my future endeavors. Join me as a Bruin helping Bruins!

Should this fund reach the campus minimum required for the establishment of an endowment or quasi-endowment, The UCLA Foundation reserves the right to convert this fund to an endowment or quasi-endowment. Please click here to learn more about how the UCLA Foundation invests and manages its endowments.

When this fund meets the endowment minimum, which is currently $100,000, through additional donations to this fund, it will be converted from a current expenditure fund to an endowed fund.

Once the fund is converted to an endowment, establishment and administration of the fund will comply with current policies of The UCLA Foundation. Although the fund is intended to exist in perpetuity, unforeseen circumstances may alter or remove the subject area from the campus academic plan or it may become impossible or impracticable to administer. In such an event, the Chancellor is authorized to redesignate the purpose of this fund after taking into consideration the designated purpose described above.

The UCLA Foundation will manage and invest these gifts in accordance with its endowment investment policies. The total return earned in excess of the amount approved annually for payout will be retained in the fund principal to protect from the effects of inflation and to allow for growth. Furthermore, the return of payout to the fund principal is authorized at the discretion of the appropriate campus official when the payout is not needed for purposes of the fund.

As is customary with universities and other non-profit organizations across the country, a one-time gift fee is applied to each pledge payment to provide essential support necessary to UCLA's overall operation. The fee is currently 6.5%.

All gifts to support UCLA accord with the University's foundational value of academic freedom, which is essential to its research and teaching mission. At no time, today or in the future, shall any donor unduly direct the inquiry, research, teaching, or learning of faculty, students, or staff. This gift will be governed by UCLA's policies and procedures.
