Our crowdfunding campaign has ended, but you can still support Pages for Pediatrics by clicking here.
Pages for Pediatrics at UCLA writes and illustrates children’s storybooks that seek to promote representation of pediatric illness and disability. To help alleviate patient anxiety, we focus our stories on characters that pediatric patients can relate to as a means of instilling comfort and solidarity in our readers. Through narrative mirroring, our books aim to empower our readers, normalize patient adversity, and combat misconceptions towards pediatric conditions in the broader community. We firmly believe in providing patients with unhindered access to our therapeutic story books, driving our donation-based partnerships with children’s hospitals across the nation and local elementary schools.
We are in the process of illustrating and wrapping up our 4th children’s book, Thread by Thread, which focuses on how patients with pediatric cancer learn to navigate the emotional and mental weight of their condition.
We then plan on beginning production of our 5th children’s book, Sally Braves the Waves, which reflects a sailboat's experience with pediatric anxiety.
We are also in the process of writing a manuscript for our 6th children's book, highlighting Piper, a parrot with a speech impediment.
Printing and distributing our books does have a hefty financial commitment. However, each and every donation matters! Most donations will go towards the large fee for printing and distribution. Donations will also go towards covering shipping costs to hospitals, transportation for elementary school read-along visits, and helping to keep the organization running!
Over the past year, we have been able to use funds raised from our 2023 SPARK Campaign towards the (1) production and donation of our book on pediatric type 1 diabetes titled Born to Soar to 8 hospitals and 5 classrooms and (2) community read-along events with our books at children’s hospitals and local elementary schools. We also worked with other nonprofit organizations at UCLA and beyond. We made and helped distribute coloring books highlighting the stories of pediatric patients with neurofibromatosis in collaboration with SketchNF. We are hoping to continue to make media with other groups to increase representation and awareness!
These funds are also currently being used to publish and print our book on pediatric cancer, Thread by Thread, which we are excited to start donating to children’s hospitals and local elementary schools in the coming months!
