UCLA Sailing Team: Help Keep Us Afloat!

The UCLA Sailing Team is a student-run, student-funded organization affiliated with UCLA Recreation Competitive Sports. The team is made up of about 35 active team members who come from a variety of sailing backgrounds. We race competitively within the Pacific Coast Collegiate Sailing Conference, traveling to around 15 regattas per year, including various varsity level events. The team not only provides excellent sailing and racing experience, but an outstanding sense of community where many of our team members have found their best friends and made lasting memories.

Our goal is to raise money for travel expenses and equipment purchases for the upcoming school year. We hope to build on the success of our team by competing in a larger number of out of state regattas and increasing the quantity of team members we are able to bring to these competitions. The most competitive college sailing is based out of the East Coast and we would like to attend more of these high level regattas. Our team currently has plans to compete in the Nevis Trophy in Kings Point, NY in the Fall of 2024. However, our limiting factor is money. Traveling out of state is costly and a plane ticket can be upwards of $500. Therefore, we are hoping to raise $5,000 by the end of this campaign. A donation of any amount will go a very long way in helping our team reach its goal. As donors, you play a huge role on our team, and are the essential part of our team's continued success. Equipment updates and increased travel will allow us to capitalize on our momentum of achievement by providing our sailors with the best opportunities possible to display their talent!

We are incredibly proud of the team and all of the progress it has made over the last several years. We currently have about 35 very enthusiastic active members and unprecedented practice attendance at which we have seen both our new and experienced members improve their skills immensely. As a result, we have improved our regatta scores greatly, gaining considerable recognition and respect among the west coast. Following our success from 2022, when we won the ICSA National Regional Teams Invite in Newport, RI, our team has become cross-regional, which is the highest level in ICSA. This will allow more of our sailors to travel all over the country and attend higher-level events. Last year we traveled to Wrightsville Beach, NC, where we placed 3rd at the 2023 Azalea Bowl Regatta! We are looking to build on that momentum and take our entire team to the next level, as we have a lot of incoming talent and some newer sailors who are excited to learn and are picking up racing very quickly. However, in order for us to continue this level of growth and success we need your help!

Within our conference, the UCLA Sailing Team does huge work in advocating for our Pacific Coast Collegiate Sailing Conference. For the past four years, a different member of our team has been elected for either the President or Vice President role in our PCCSC Undergraduate Executive board, advocating for our conference across the greater ICSA. By representing UCLA at east coast and out-of-state regattas, we exemplify the competitiveness of our conference and gain more resources for West Coast sailing! This year, we competed at Cactus Cup in AZ, ASU’s first ever collegiate regatta! When we have the resources to attend new regattas, the entire conference grows in its competence and recognition. In order to continue supporting our conference to make West Coast sailing more accessible, we’re looking to you!

On behalf of the entire UCLA Sailing Family, we'd like to thank you for your contribution no matter the size. Your contribution will go a long way in continuing the unprecedented growth and success of our team and providing college students with an incredible opportunity to enrich their university experience by sailing, competing, traveling, and making the strongest friendships they will find on campus.

Your generous gift will pay for two plane tickets to an out-of-state regatta! Having earned our eligibility as a cross-regional team, we try to attend at least 2 cross-country regattas a year.
