Hospitals can be a scary place - especially for children, the elderly, and those without family. Luckily the UCLA People-Animal Connection (PAC) dogs are experts in providing comfort and care, improving the hospital experience for those who need it the most.
For nearly 30 years, the UCLA People-Animal Connection has been at the forefront of Animal-Assisted Therapy and Activity (AAT/A) programs in the United States. PAC volunteer teams consisting of canine and human partners bring comfort, companionship, and warmth to over 1,000 patients every month at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center and UCLA Medical Center, Santa Monica.
Our mission is to provide comfort and tangible health benefits to critically ill patients, including those who may not get visitors otherwise.
PAC is dedicated to supporting the UCLA community, with volunteers providing comfort to patients and students alike. PAC teams up with the UCLA Library’s Stressbusters program to promote student health and well-being during the weeks leading up to and including finals. One of the most popular activities in the program, PAC therapy dogs visit Powell Library to help over 5,000 students each year decompress, proving that there’s nothing like a wagging tail to lift spirits.
The simple act of petting a dog has more power than you might think! In addition to putting a smile on patients' faces, animal therapy...
We are an entirely donation-based volunteer group, meaning all materials and program expenses are funded by donations. Each PAC team must meet PAC’s strict eligibility criteria and successfully complete a nationally standardized behavioral exam. Following the exam is a lengthy period of screening and training, including classroom studies and supervised on-site visits. This training process can take six months or more. Your gift, large or small, will help us with the training and administrative expenses of People–Animal Connection, maximizing the impact of our volunteers both human and canine.
Our dogs and their humans count on you to help fund our endeavors and bring happiness and relief to countless patients, students, and staff. Your support is critical to helping us continue and expand our services so that even more people in our UCLA community can benefit from hugs, wags, and kisses from our devoted volunteer pups.
