Since the opening of the iconic John Wooden Center in 1983, the UCLA Gymnastics team has trained in Yates Gym in the heart of the Westwood campus. Over the 40 years of the program, the Bruins have brought 6 NCAA team titles back to Yates.
In 2012, Phase I of the first-ever renovation of Yates Gym began with a lead gift from beloved friend of UCLA Gymnastics, Don Shepherd.
Its completion in 2013 gave us the beautiful and classy Don Shepherd UCLA Gymnastics Suite, which includes the Rita Rothman Conference Room, the Karen and Joel Fierberg Locker Room, the Murray and Lenny Neidorf Lounge, and the John and Nan Wooden Physio Room that overlooks our practice facility.
It has dramatically changed our student-athletes' daily lives, as they now have a “home” on campus in which they can relax, study, shower and get away from campus life without leaving the University.
Importantly, this paved the way for the second phase of Yates' transformation that will bring UCLA Gymnastics into a new era of athletic achievement.
Phase II of the renovation of Yates Gym is set to start in the summer of 2015. The renovation will bring us a state-of-the-art training facility unlike any other in the country.
Our goal is to elevate the training equipment onto a podium and give our athletes the opportunity to train year-round on the same surface that they compete on for the NCAA National Championships!
Our Phase II renovation is estimated to cost over $475,000.
We have established this crowdfunding campaign to help cover the initial cost of Phase II renovation and need you to make UCLA Gymnastics the most competitive team in the nation.
By contributing to this campaign, you will be offering our Bruins the opportunity to train daily on the exact same surface that they will compete on at the National Championships.
The biggest reason we are excited about this campaign is because we want to reach out to our global fans. Regardless of the size of the donation, come be a part of it.
Additionally, you can be a champion of our campaign by sharing our Spark project with friends and family and encourage them to support our project today.
Reach out to your followers on Twitter and Facebook. We will be trending with the hashtag #150k30days.
