Help UCLA Students Transition from College to Career
UCLA not only prepares students for life beyond college by giving them a world-class education, it also seeks to develop their skills in navigating today’s complex job market.
The UCLA Career Center serves as a critical bridge between the needs of our students to those of our alumni and community employers, working diligently to provide novel, pioneering programs and trainings to develop their professional skills.
We are excited to announce the first-ever Career Ready Bootcamp to assist students in gaining a competitive edge in today’s career landscape.
The UCLA Career Ready Bootcamp is a three-day leadership and professional development initiative held at the UCLA Lake Arrowhead Conference Center. The bootcamp offers sophomores and first year transfer students the opportunity to take a short break from the academic stresses of campus to make strong connections with alumni and professionals in top industries.
Students selected to participate in this pilot program were screened through a rigorous application process. They represent a variety of majors and backgrounds and include a diverse population of students including athletes and former foster youth.
Under the guidance of alumni and professional mentors, the students will explore professional etiquette, career interests and values, gain networking skills, get resume feedback and participate in mock interviews. They will leave the camp with the tools needed to be successful in the pursuit of their future internships and careers.
Importantly, professional development doesn’t stop at the Bootcamp’s conclusion. Our students will have strategic requirements and will engage in programs and counseling at the UCLA Career Center to ensure their continued growth.
This program will help our students effectively navigate the pathways that connect education and lead to successful employment.
When our pilot Bootcamp was announced we had an overwhelming student response, which reinforced the necessity to continue to provide this unique experience to our Bruins.
Our goal for this crowdfunding platform is to raise funds for more bootcamps.
As we did with the pilot program, we will design future bootcamps that empower participants to practice professional etiquette, gain strong networking skills, craft standout resumes, leverage social media for career advancement and approach job interviews with confidence.
Yet for us to continue to offer these programs in the future, we need a significant amount of funding beyond the scope of our current budget.
We seek additional funding from our Bruin alumni, parents, friends and business community to ensure the Bootcamps are sustainable and successful.
