Organized men’s lacrosse has been played on campus at UCLA since 1969. The current self-funded club team is comprised of about 25 driven student-athletes from all over the United States. Being part of this team allows our student-athletes to continue to play the sport they love at a high level while also receiving a world-class education. Without NCAA Division I Men’s Lacrosse on the West Coast, the UCLA Club Men’s Lacrosse Team competes at the highest level: Division I of the Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA) as a part of the Southwestern Lacrosse Conference (SLC).
UCLA Men’s Lacrosse Team participates in a six-week preseason fall program, which includes three practices a week and a couple of scrimmages, before the fall season ends at the Las Vegas Lacrosse Showcase on November 11th. Our regular season program begins right at the return from winter break with our game schedule typically spanning the end of January until the middle of April. The team travels throughout California and the Southwest with regular trips made to the Bay Area, Las Vegas, and San Diego. Depending on the team’s regular season performance, there is also the opportunity to qualify for the SLC Conference Tournament and the MCLA National Tournament, which will take place in Salt Lake City this year. After just missing out on the SLC Conference Tournament the past two years, the team is hoping to return to the conference tournament in 2018.
During the past offseason a large number of our uniforms were mishandled and have not been recovered. As a self-funded student-athlete club sports team, a majority of our annual operating budget is generated by player dues. The money raised through this project would go directly towards getting two sets of uniforms (one blue, one white 1-40 in each color). We are hoping to raise money to help front this significant one time cost in order to keep our player dues at an affordable level and maintain the competitive level of our current schedule. If we have to significantly increase our dues to cover the cost of new uniforms, it could make playing competitive lacrosse impossible for some of our most dedicated teammates. With your support, we would be able to field our best possible team for the 2018 season and look great while doing it!
