Our Story
UCLA Men’s Club Water Polo is a student run and student funded organization affiliated with UCLA Recreation Club Sports. This year we have over 35 active members with a bounty of new talent. We are currently competing against four other teams in the Pacific Coast Division, the toughest division in the Collegiate Water Polo Association with multiple teams consistently ranked in the top-10 in the nation, and are looking to grab a top spot in the championship tournament for our division. The team not only provides excellent water polo development and experience, but has built an exceptional community around the sport where our members have found lifelong friends and lasting memories.
We are 3-time National Champions, winning in 2009, 2010, and 2013. Our ultimate goal for the upcoming year is to return to and win next year’s championship tournament in New York. You can help us achieve this with your donations.
Our Needs
The team is self-funded and only receives a small amount of money from the school. Our goal is to raise $5,000 to help pay for the costs of maintaining the team. Our biggest costs are tournament fees throughout the year and because we are fielding 2 travel teams so that more of our players get playing time, these costs take up the majority of our budget. In addition to tournament fees, travel and lodging costs make up a substantial amount of our expenses, especially since the 2018 Nationals is in New York.
Your donations would help alleviate the stress that comes with a student-run and self-funded team and would not only help this year’s team, but future teams to come. Over the years, our equipment has begun to wear down and break. As a result, the number of usable caps has been decreasing and purchasing a new set is a priority. We are planning on purchasing a new set of water polo caps to ensure the safety of our players.
Here are some examples of the costs for the team:
$50 - Tank of gas for travel
$200 - Lodging for four players in San Luis Obispo, CA
$1,500 - A set of home and away caps
$5,000 - League Tournament dues for the season for 2 teams
