Emily Abrahams

My name is Emily and I am a first year MPH student in the Community Health Sciences program at UCLA's Fielding School of Public Health. Those of you who know me personally, know that I have a strong commitment to creating healthy societies and communities and living a healthy lifestyle. I love running, hiking, swimming and anything outdoors. Running a half marathon has been a goal of mine and running the LA half-marathon charity challenge to raise money for the Fielding School of Public Health is the perfect opportunity to integrate both my passions of living a healthy lifestyle and working towards healthy communities.

Students in the Fielding School of Public Health are required to complete summer fieldwork internships, either in local communities or abroad. These internships are impactful for both the communities that we are working in, and also for us, to gain hands-on experience to be leaders in the field of public health. Summer fieldwork allows us to translate what we learn academically into real-world experiences. However, many of the internships are not able to provide monetary compensation. For this reason, it is important to me to support my peers by raising money towards fellowships for summer fieldwork.

Your gift will support and enable students to complete amazing and impactful work abroad or in local communities. We will be able to use our in-depth knowledge of public health to support interventions and projects in communities in need.  Thank you for supporting me in my first half-marathon and supporting UCLA’s Fielding School of Public Health.  Happy running!
