Hi Everyone!
My name is Zarreen and I am a 1st year M.P.H. student in the Environmental Health Sciences department at UCLA's Fielding School of Public Health. I plan to specialize in Industrial Hygiene/Occupational Health as well as ergonomics.
As many of you know, I moved to Los Angeles from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Since I began my new life here, I've been eager to try new things. One of the first activities that popped into my mind was running a 5K. Running a 5K was never really in my periphery, but I wanted to use this 5K as a building block to boost me to push myself further and run half marathons and eventually full marathons. Having the support and encouragement from people of all levels at the Fielding School of Public Health has been nothing short of amazing. I am thrilled to be running with my colleagues at the Fielding School to raise money for fellowships for summer fieldwork!
As a student, I've had the opportunity to attend symposiums and attend workshops detailing how to build trust within individuals within a company in order to produce the best work in the safest way possible. Not unlike running a 5K (or other distance running), successfully working to address worker health and safety can seem impossible. However, working with students and faculty at the Fielding School allows me to understand different perspectives and also enables me to further hone my communication and trust-building skills. Because of this, I look forward to translating what I have learned in the class room through to the real world in the form of a summer fieldwork experience!
I am running with the FSPH team in order to raise money for fellowships for summer fieldwork so that Fielding students will have the opportunity to participate in meaningful fieldwork experiences this summer.
Your kind contribution will enable Fielding students to do excellent work in organizations that may benefit from our collective knowledge as future public health professionals. With your support, students that work with organizations that cannot provide compensation will have the opportunity to spend the summer making a difference in communities in not only Los Angeles, but around the globe too!
