Who are we?
We are an all-female UCLA trumpet ensemble, headed to Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania to compete in the semi-final Ensemble Division of the National Trumpet Competition. An all-female ensemble has never performed in either the semi-finals or finals, which makes our invitation a historic first. By performing in a field that is largely underrepresented by women, our goal for the performance is to inspire other youth through college-aged female trumpet players to see themselves represented at this national platform. We aim to do so through performing at the high level of excellence that this competition demands.
What is NTC?
The National Trumpet Competition is a prestigious event that takes place annually, originating in 1992. This competition draws in trumpet players from across the country to compete and work with some of the worlds greatest trumpet players. The music industry is extremely male-dominant and there is a significant difference between the ratio of male to female trumpet players. Our goal is to make a difference in our field and to provide the foundation for a community where women are supported and encouraged in the arts. We want to change the stigma about gender roles and brass players, and we hope to inspire and encourage younger female musicians to pursue their dreams. In order to highlight this difference and raise awareness for gender equality, we will be the first all-female group to compete in the ensemble division at this competition. This statement will additionally help to represent UCLA as an incredibly diverse, supportive, and forward-thinking establishment.
How can you help bring us to Pennsylvania?
NTC is hosted at different college campuses every year, and this year it is being hosted by Messiah College, in Mechanicsburg Pennsylvania. We are doing our best to cut costs by using the student opportunity fund through UCLA, but it isn’t nearly enough… This is where we need your help! Here’s a breakdown of travel costs, so you can see exactly how your donation will help bring us closer to NTC.
