A New Challenge

The COVID-19 crisis continues to turn our daily lives upside down. We are all experiencing a profound shift both professionally and personally. The UCLA Dentistry family is vast and widespread, but we’re also friendly and familiar and we want you to know that we are here with you and for you during these unprecedented times.

Like you, we have had to adjust the way we operate. We are having to change the ways we serve our patients and how we train our students. The entire UCLA campus has shifted to remote learning, and we have followed suit. Not only that, UCLA has significantly reduced the population density on campus by encouraging staff and faculty to work remotely, while many campus services are temporarily closed.

The Student Experience Amidst COVID-19

As we move forward under these challenging circumstances, we must address the impact these changes are having on our students.

•  Graduates are asking themselves, when will the economy recover and what will it look like?
• Incoming and current students are wondering, will we be able to remotely learn what we need to while we move past this crisis?
• All students are wondering, how will this down-turn affect my financial aid and scholarship opportunities?

The student experience has been and always will be among UCLA Dentistry’s top priorities. We have had to quickly rethink the ways in which we continue to provide our high-quality educational experiences in a remote-learning environment. Our faculty are being trained to provide remote instruction and technology resources are being implemented to try to mimic in-person instruction as much as possible.

How You Can Help

We are asking our community, both near and far, to consider giving to the Apollonian Society – the dental school’s fundraising arm, whose mission is to support the student experience. Donations from this campaign will be directed to supporting students during this crisis.

UCLA Dentistry is a name synonymous with excellence. We will rise above the current challenges that we are facing as a society and as a place of learning.
