Supporting Diversity and Inclusivity in Undergraduate Research
At a time when research and health equity are at the forefront of our minds, UCLA’s Undergraduate Research Centers (URC’s) are preparing our researchers who are the scientists, CEOs, and artists of tomorrow. The CARE Fellows Program provides students with little to no previous research experience the opportunity to receive financial support while participating in a research with a faculty mentor. The goal of this program is to provide enrichment opportunities for those students who seek careers in scientific research and teaching and whose success through graduate training will increase the number of historically underrepresented individuals in the academic and technological fields.
The Promise of CARE Fellows: Preparation, Access, and Opportunity
This year the CARE Fellows will no longer have the support and consistent funding from the federal government. Staying true to the URC's mission – Preparation, Access, and Opportunity, we see this as an opportunity to help a Bruin program and its students in need of funds to continue, sustain, and help underrepresented student researchers thrive in their time at UCLA and beyond.
Our mission to provide resources that promote, develop, and celebrate undergraduate students is made all the more relevant during times like these. Leadership and innovation now ensure that students can remote pursue program like CARE Fellows, services, and access financial help they need to continue at UCLA.
The number of Bruins who contact the URCs seeking to apply to the program continues to grow and we are currently not able to accept any new applications.
Your gift will directly impact the URC’s ability to increase the percentage of student research applicants for the this program who through this program are able to be paid to do research – alleviating any financial burden and allowing them to focus solely on their research and participate in enriching opportunities such as this year's 2021 Virtual Undergraduate Research Week. Here they will have the opportunity to showcase their work to the greater UCLA and Los Angeles research community.
The Impact
Not only will your support cement underrepresented undergraduate student researcher's place and support system at UCLA, but you will be carving out a path for them forward beyond UCLA.
Meet our CARE Fellows Scholars
The impact of a program like the CARE Fellows, goes far beyond hands-on research experience.
