UCLA Dragon Boat is a student-run competitive club sports team. Founded in 2004, our team prides itself in building a diverse and tight-knit community of students who are committed to and embody the spirit of competition and excellence. We are 50 paddlers strong, making up two race crews: Blue and Gold.
As a student-run team, our paddlers are continuously concerned about finances. From registration fees and accommodation for race events, to transportation and equipment fees during weekly practices, the majority of the team’s operating expenses come out of our students’ own pockets. Your support will help the team pursue our passion for paddling without the financial stress.
Our initial goal focuses on funding our upcoming race in Vancouver this summer. At this race, we will be competing against fellow local and international dragon boat teams. In addition to the hefty race registration fees, transportation, housing, equipment, and other expenses generate significant costs to ensure a successful race experience. UCLA Dragon Boat has not returned to Vancouver for the past 10 years, largely due to the cost-prohibitive nature of international travel. But with your help, we can make it happen!
This is where YOU come in! By donating to our campaign, you will not only help alleviate team expenses at this festival, but also contribute to the long tradition and larger Dragon Boat community.
Thanks to our generous donors, our previous SPARK campaign raised over $7,000 — 481% of our original goal! We immensely appreciate having been able to surpass our previous goal, and with those funds, we were able to alleviate fees for future race registrations, finance annual dues at our practice site, and subsidize equipment costs for our paddlers. We'd like to express our deepest gratitude to everyone who donated during our 2020 campaign. Whether you're a team alumni, friends or family of a past or current member, or member of the community, your support is what makes everything we do possible!
