Thank you to everyone who has given to the campaign thus far! We are excited to share that we have raised $1,827 from 18 donors. However, we have fallen quite short of our campaign goal. Last year during Black History Month, we raised $3,736 from 45 donors. That was a big win and it helped us to grant our first five scholarship awards to current students! Can you help us match last year's giving?
This year, we set a very ambitious goal. Our hope was not only to match support from last year, but to set our sights high to raise $10,000 toward new scholarships at UCLA Arts! With only hours left, please help us to spread the word before the campaign ends in the next 11 HOURS so we can finish strong!
Please share this campaign on social media and encourage your friends and colleagues to join us in amplifying historically underrepresented and excluded voices by making a gift to uplift Black Life at UCLA Arts.
Last year, this community came together to invest in the UCLA Arts Racial Equity Fund. As a result of your philanthropy, a dream was finally realized, and we were able to award five new scholarships to our inaugural recipients!
We caught up with one of those inaugural scholarship awardees and current student, Nehemiah Cisneros, to speak about the impact that scholarship support makes for artists and creators at the UCLA School of Arts & Architecture. Your gift made Nehemiah's scholarship possible and we're so grateful for your support!
We are currently working toward a $10,000 fundraising goal to support our next generation of artists and creators. Can we count on your continued support in these final 14 days of our campaign? Learn more about the 2023 campaign and make a gift here: spark.ucla.edu/racialequityfund
Thank you!
Nikki Parrish and the SOAA team
P.S. Visit to see your impact in action! Meet Nehemiah in his studio and learn more about his current works in progress, by joining us for UCLA Department of Art Graduate Open Studios on February 17 from 6:00 - 9:00 pm at UCLA Margo Leavin Graduate Arts Studios in Culver City. The event is free and open to the public!
Thank you for supporting anti-racism, equity, diversity, and inclusion!
To those who have made a gift, thank you for being a catalyst for change.
We still have a way to go, and we need your help right now to secure 74 more donors to reach our goal. Our important work is not possible without this community rallying behind it. You have shown that you believe in our mission of educational equity for all. Your support strengthens our ability to create a more inclusive and diverse school community at UCLA Arts, as we continue to make changes to improve our climate of care to support every students’ sense of purpose, meaning, and belonging.
As we continue toward the final says of this Black History Month campaign, will you help us spread the word by sharing this link spark.ucla.edu/racialequityfund?

Since 2016, we've only had 98 Black graduate students enrolled at UCLA Arts. Today, only 5% of our UCLA Arts graduate students are US residents who identify as Black. Over the past five years, we have not enrolled a single International graduate student who identifies as Black. We want this to change. Your gift will help us award scholarships and fellowships to support our recruitment of students and to build a more diverse school community.
Over the past 5 years, we've only had 247 Black undergraduate students enrolled at UCLA Arts. Today, Black Americans account for only 7% of our undergraduate students. Your gift will honor these students while building scholarship support for future generations of students on their journey toward shaping the future.
Black Americans account for 14.2% of the US population but only 3.6% of professors, and 6% of graduate and undergraduate students at UCLA Arts. Your gift to the UCLA Arts Racial Equity Fund helps us to foster an environment that values difference, rejects inequity and actively works to advance social justice and amplify historically underrepresented and excluded voices.
Honor UCLA Arts' '22 graduating class with your gift in honor of these artists, dancers, performers, architects, and creators who will design our future.
