Our crowdfunding campaign has ended but you can still support the African American Studies Department at UCLA by clicking here.
Thank you to everyone who has made a gift in support of the UCLA Department of African American Studies thus far. Your gift helps further academic opportunities and supports the innovative research of students like Gina Davis MA '23:
Gina's research focuses on Black Diaspora fashion and dress narratives, as well as global Black-owned fashion designers and businesses. Her research seeks to discover the elements that create and contribute to Black style aesthetics and analyze the role of design and craftsmanship behind the products themselves. In the summer of 2022, she traveled to Ghana and Cote D’Ivoire on a 5-week research trip supported by the department. Through interviews with local manufacturers, sellers, designers, and artisans, she learned about their contributions to immediate community needs, the local economy, and sustainability efforts.
We are still in need of 34 more gifts in order to reach our goal by the end of the month. Please consider sharing our campaign to help us continue supporting the work of our talented students and furthering Black scholarship at UCLA.
