Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated is an organization of college-educated women committed to the constructive development of its members and to public service with a primary focus on the Black community. Here at UCLA, the Black student population consists of less than 4% of the student body and is recognized as a historically underserved community. In addition, African-American students at UCLA are shown to have a 79.8% graduation rate, which is significantly lower in comparison to their white counterparts with a graduation rate of 93.2%.
In order to address the needs of the UCLA Black student population, Pi Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc was chartered on January 23rd, 1923 by 5 Black women. Pi Chapter was recognized as being the first Greek organization on UCLA’s campus. Since then, Pi Chapter has continued to set the standard of service with our dedication to the betterment of the Black student and the larger Los Angeles community through our legacy of sisterhood, scholarship, service, and social action. Our goal for our centennial is to continue this legacy by raising enough funds to establish an endowed scholarship to aid and support students that may be in financial need while pursuing their academic goals.
Your gifts and donations will allow students who are in financial need, the opportunity to succeed at the same level as their peers. As the first Black sorority on campus, we understand the importance of representation and even more so, the necessity of community support. Please join us in our efforts to create a space on campus where Black students do not just exist but thrive to their fullest potential!
