Joyce Thung

My name is Joyce Thung and I am a second year MPH student in the Environmental Health Sciences Department at Fielding School of Public Health.

This is my second year running the marathon and fundraising for FSPH. For my 9-month fieldwork experience, I was an Advocacy Fellow for the UCLA Public Health Training on Population Health Advocacy at the nonprofit, Los Angeles Alliance for a New Economy (LAANE). I led and conducted a health impact assessment on the waste management system in Long Beach. My internship experience was challenging yet eye opening; it's taught me so much about how the way we manage our waste can affect our climate, air quality, and economy. Working on this project has helped me decide to pursue a sustainability-related field to help reduce our footprint on our environment.

My unforgettable MPH experience so far has been made possible with the generous financial support and research opportunities from the Public Health Training Program and UCLA FSPH. Please join me and help give amazing opportunities to future MPH students at UCLA!
